That was one of the crazier things I’ve ever seen. Saw it happen from a ways away. Red hot parts blew like 50' in the air. By the time I got up close the car was a fireball.

Nooooooo. Hopefully it wasn’t a situation that could have been prevented with quick use of a small fire extinguisher

Wait, you mean running an engine at high power levels with no cooling airflow might blow it up? And LOL at that first extringuisher, he might as well have tried pissing on the fire. What a bunch of jackoffs.

Was that car running NO2?

I’m assuming the driver got out. I didn’t see it happen in the vid.

“In all seriously is everybody ok?” Says the guy on the PA system.

Why were they driving a car into a freeway divider?

Flywheel/clutch/something around the back of the engine that was spinning gave up and probably ripped an oil or fuel line

Was this at hyperfest?

It’s a cheap but damaging way to do a burnout without having to hold the brakes...or having brakes capable of doing line-lock.

You don’t need line lock to do a brake stand. That looked like a very expensive way to do a brake stand.

Well, it’s a Miata, I’m not sure if the stock NA brakes could hold it anyway.

I think in this case the brakes might have been cheaper.

There’s no power to the front so all you have to worry about is the locked wheels being pushed.

Yeah, at the burnout contest Saturday night.

This car had no front body panels on it anyway.

Well I suppose this is why you don’t try for what seemed like a 3rd gear burnout with a load of clutch kicks.

I’ve been tempted to make it out to one of those someday, how was it?
